This is the third year in a row that the Raiders were undefeated in the tournament going 4-0! The first three matches for AFC were extremely close and all came down to the last toss-up question. The Raiders 3rd match proved that even when being down by a lot at halftime that the match is not over and they preserved to come back victorious!

Early Saturday the AFC Scholastic Bowl Team traveled to Galena to participate in the IHSSBCA Turnabout Tournament. The Raiders were slow out of the gate but after fully waking up did well enough to defeat Morrison 350-265 in the championship match to become Tournament Champions! A special shoutout to both Ayden Willstead and Oliver James for being named to the All-Tournament team!

Chemistry students explored ionic compounds today, combining hydrochloric acid and sodium bicarbonate to create sodium chloride—better known as table salt!

Clarification about Raider of the Week: This is an honor that EVERY student is eligible for regardless of attendance, grades, or discipline. Every week teachers are tasked with looking for examples of students performing positive acts of kindness or respect, students being helpful, students showing improvement in areas of attention, engagement, grades, etc. Teachers make notes on Raider postcards to be sent home. From the weekly pile which may be two postcards, it may be nine postcards, one is randomly drawn and that student receives the distinction of being honored. Every student in the building has equal opportunity. At this time we have 80 students that have received postcards and 12 that were drawn for Raider of the Week.
Also, a reminder that on half of the postcard is a coupon for a free item at any AFC concession stand. Of the 80 sent out fewer than 10 coupons have been turned in.
Our next winner will be announced Thursday.
