Congratulations to Sage Berg for being selected as our first Raider of the Week for the week of September 13. Sage was observed being a good human!
This year Raider of the Week is a little different. Students are recognized for being helpful, being respectful, improving, trying hard, etc. Several students will be nominated throughout the week and one person is drawn at random. Sage is our first lucky winner. In addition, we will be recognizing an Athlete of the Week separately.

What better way to begin studying the amazing, talented artist Jackson Pollock, than by creating a piece of art in his style!?! In case you don’t know, Jackson Pollock was an American artist from the early 20th century who was famous for splatter painting, and eventually became one of the founders of the abstract expressionist movement. This movement was the first to begin independent of Europe and shift the center of the art world from Paris to NYC.
High school art students had an opportunity today to take part in creating a group splatter painting measuring 48” x 120”. The finished works are at the end of the video and will be on display in the hallway across from the junior high gym very soon. (If they ever dry🤣)
Disclaimer: I did mention to the children that they might not want to wear their best clothes today, I also gave them an option to opt out, gave them an option to wear a lab coat, and gave them an option to cover the front half of their person with a piece of cardboard. These were all to protect themselves from getting covered with paint. They made their choice.

Kindergarten read a book today called "Little Green" about a green hummingbird that makes different lines with his flight. Afterwards they were given wiki sticks (wax covered string) to practice making the lines that little green flew. When they were done they used the sticks to practice writing their names and then they made pictures, jewelry and sculptures. I even had my portrait made!

Junior High Volleyball Update!!
Due to a schedule conflict, there will be NO junior high volleyball game with Faith Christian tonight. There will be practice right after school for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
Today the kindergarten and first graders got a special surprise! The fifth graders and sixth graders have been reviewing their sewing skills in the art room and made little friendship pocket hearts for the little kids to keep. These are a keepsake that they can tie on their lunch or tie on their backpack or even keep in their pocket to remind them that everyone at school cares about them. The big kids "hid" them on the playground and the little kids went searching. Check out their treasures! #afcart #artball
This week at AFC (September 9 - September 14)
