This is a great example of the learning opportunities available to AFC students at the Whiteside Area Career Center. Great job, Ky! Amazing work in the WACC Welding and Manufacturing class!
Continuing with the "Food We Eat" unit, students tested which cleaners work better for produce. Since many food products are handled multiple times from farm to fork, there is ample opportunity for contamination to be introduced. Students compared 6 fruits and vegetables, 3 types of cleaning products including just water, homemade cleaner, and commercial cleaner, and two methods, including spraying and swishing. They checked produce under a black light before and after each cleaning method. Students were surprised at how different methods were more effective for different produce. They found cucumbers and radishes were cleaned best with just water. Apples, strawberries, and lettuce were cleaned best with the homemade cleaner and grapes were cleaned best with a commercial fruit and veggie cleaner.
SCHEDULE CHANGE!
Due to a conflict with another team not being able to play Wednesday in the Freeport Aquin tournament, the JV game will now be played Wednesday at 6:00 rather than tonight at 7:30. Apologies for the confusion. Messages will be sent to the boys on the Team Reach App.
