District Athletic/Activities Program Philosophy

The AFC school district believes that student athletics and activities are an extension of the regular school day where students will continue to learn, grow, and thrive. As such, we strive to instill in each participant a strong sense of competition, character and work ethic. We believe that the AFC athletic and activity experience is a progressive process culminating in varsity athletics.

6-8 grade athletics and activities stress skill development over wins and losses. The focus of the 6-8 grade experience is to develop interest, enthusiasm, and fundamental skills while introducing students to elements of competitive athletics and activities.

9-12 grade athletics and activities continue to focus on fundamental skills, excellent sportsmanship, and discipline, while ensuring a safe environment. A focus on development and winning programs occurs progressively culminating in high-level varsity athletic programs and activities.

By maintaining a consistent focus on the development of the player, the person, and the team concept at every level, AFC athletics and activities will continually field teams that are consistently successful and worthy of community pride, and our students will continue to learn, grow, and thrive.

Participation in some type of athletics is highly recommended. Cheering on our students also is encouraged! A $30 annual activity pass provides access to all home athletic events except for tournaments.

Athletic Forms and Fees

All students participating in high school interscholastic athletics are required to submit to the school office:

  • A permission slip signed by parents/guardians

  • Students in Grades 7-12 must also pay athletic fees prior to participating.

Bus Transportation to/from Games

Players and cheerleaders will be transported to and from a contest aboard the bus provided by the school. At the coach’s discretion, the parent(s) may request in writing that the student be allowed to return with the parent(s). Athletes may ride home with parents or grandparents by signing out with the coach after the contest.

They may also ride home with other parents if the administration has a signed request from both sets of parents involved (parents of the athlete riding home and the parents that are providing the ride). The requests need to be in the office of the school the athletes attend no later than before the bus departure the day of the event.
